Poetry on the Plot

In My Allotment Trousers

I run my finger along the rail
of trousers hanging there on hook
Why one shall hang upon a nail
In the shed well  there  look
This one could not shout louders
Here "I am! allotment trousers!"

I look at Peter's blue and glossy
tied with rope in bow.
He knows his onions but he's not bossy
Done for function not for show
"Bow ties are more for Housers"
"me, I like me 'llotment trousers"

Spring is here and its brighter
Sowing and weeding, bending low
And the trousers getting tighter
Admire the furrow and long to hoe,
tighten muscles in cotton blouses
Standing proud - allotment trousers
