Stella Creesy contacted HERAA with news on the issue. The Department has no intention of removing statutory protections for allotments and, as such, we have no plans to remove local authorities’ statutory duties to provide allotments. We will continue to support local communities who want to use local spaces for community food growing, and to protect existing land for this purpose, for example, through new neighbourhood planning provisions in the Localism Bill, which will provide a new right for communities to shape their local areas, including the means to boost allotment provision.
